Finding Affordable Health Insurance in Germany to Work, Study, and Live

Germany boasts a highly praised and well rounded health insurance system that is essentially comprised of three different parts. There is the Public Health Insurance System (GKV), the Private (PKV) and the Expat Health Insurance System. To qualify for either of the three options, you have to meet certain requirements. These can be anything from your visa status,  your job situation, as well as the amount of money you earn.

Regardless, health insurance is absolutely mandatory for all residents of Germany.

Figuring out your best option is an important task! We’ve put together an article highlighting some of the best insurance options within Germany.

Public Health Insurance

If you are a regular employee earning under €62,550 per year, a student under the age of 30, or an EU citizen that is a freelancer/self-employed then we strongly recommend TK as your health insurance provider.

TK is regularly awarded as the No. 1 healthcare provider in Germany and it is clear why.

A quick, online sign-up process can get you insured within two days. All service and documentation is performed completely in English. And most importantly, it meets all the requirements for a Work Visa, EU Blue Card and the Student Visa.

Students benefit from a reduced price and can expect to pay roughly around €105 euros per month depending on their age. Employees can expect the standard 14.6% of their salary, with half paid by the employer.

Use our sign-up link and get insured today!

For those looking for an alternative, check out Barmers as an equally high-quality provider in Public Health Insurance.

Private Health Insurance

For employees earning a high salary and for freelancers failing to qualify for Public Health Insurance, Private Health Insurance is also a great option to consider.

Ottonova doubles as a private health insurance provider, meeting all the requirements for a Freenlance Visa and providing full support in English 24/7.

Feather’s also has a brokerage service where they play matchmaker with you and a trusted Private Health provider.

In both cases, the cost will be dependent on your overall risk profile in respect to your health. Factors such as how old you are or any existing health conditions.

Expat Health Insurance

Those just recently moved to Germany as a Job Seeker, a Working-Holidayer, Non-EU Citizens who are freelancers/self-employed, MiniJob employees, and German-Language school students do not qualify for the Public Health Insurance system. This leaves Expat Health Insurance as the best option.

Feather’s is an extremely affordable option that meets all visa requirements while providing a high standard of medical care. Everything is also done in English, making it the perfect choice! The monthly fee comes out to just about €70 a month.

Other up-to-standard options to consider are Ottonova and Foyers.

How to get a work visa in Germany https://clubglobals.com/how-to-get-work-visa-germany/ Mon, 20 Jul 2020 17:05:18 +0000 https://clubglobals.com/?p=15596 The post How to get a work visa in Germany appeared first on Club GLOBALS.

How to get a work visa in Germany

As March 2020, the new Skilled Immigration Act came to effect to improve and facilitate the arrival of international labor into the German market. The laws for qualified professionals with university degrees are now more flexible. More importantly, expanded to workers with vocational non-academic training.

To help you pursue your dream career, here you will find a complete guide of how to get a work visa in Germany.

To start: what makes a qualified professional?

Is considered in this category, any candidate with a tertiary education degree (concluded within the country or abroad) or with vocational training of at least two years of length. In both cases, you will need to obtain official recognition of your professional qualification, before applying for the work visa.

This procedure is mandatory for regulated professions, such as engineer, teacher, lawyer, doctor, nurse and other health related occupations. In this case, a written permission to exercise your profession can also be asked by the German mission abroad. The recognition prerequisite does not apply to non-regulated careers. Such as chefs, artists, managers and athletes; but is encouraged to assist employers in the moment of hiring. Same rule applies for candidates who have completed their professional training or higher education in Germany.

At the Anerkennung In Deutschland website, you can find the complete list of regulated and non-regulated professions, as well as the step by step to get your recognition. Your visa application will not be processed if your qualification has not been officially recognised yet. So that should be your priority.

Job Seeker Visa and the saga for a job opportunity

One of the biggest additions brought by the new Skilled Immigration Act is the suspension of priority for EU members. That means that the Federal Employment Agency no longer checks if the position could be occupied first by a German or European citizen; giving equal opportunity for qualified workers. The new law also states that international job opportunities are no longer restricted to occupations experiencing shortage.

If that is not already a big help, the Job Seeker Visa comes to facilitate even more for you to find your dream job. This type of visa, allows qualified professionals to enter the country and stay up to six months to get a full time contract with an employer. All you need is to have your qualification recognized (if it is the case), proof that you can financially support yourself during the period, and present level B1 of knowledge on the German language. With the Job Seeker Visa, you are authorized to work up to 10 hours per week on a trial basis.

Getting your skills developed

In specific cases, the German authorities might conclude that your qualification does not meet the position’s requirements. For that situation, there is the visa for Training and Skill Development. The documentation prerequisite is to present level A2 of knowledge on the German language, and it gives the candidate a residence permit valid for 18 months, extendable for another 4 months. During this period, you will be able to apply for a study or work permit within the country.

How to speed up the process?

If you already found a job opportunity, you can get in touch with your employer to submit a fast-track application. In this procedure, the professional needs to authorize the future employer to send the documentation for the local foreigner’s authority. They will be the ones responsible for obtaining the approval from the Federal Employment Agency. Once you receive the preliminary approval, you can make a visa application appointment at your local mission abroad office. This option costs 411 euros and can take up to six weeks.

Can my family come along?

The visa procedure also covers the candidate’s spouse and minor unmarried children. For the approval, all the applications (including all the members) should be submitted at the same time. The applicant must also provide proof of financial means for the entire family’s living and housing cost, without any support from the German state.

Important to mention: this condition does not extend for the Job Seeker kind of visa.

What are the exceptions?

The visa rules apply differently for members of the EU freedom of movement regime; including all European Union member states, as well as citizens of Iceland, Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein; who can enter the country without a visa and are not required to obtain permission to take up employment. Changes also affect citizens from United States of America, Canada, Israel, Korea, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. In their case, they are allowed to enter Germany without a visa and submit an application for residence within the country.

Especial rules also apply to candidates over 45 years old. If that’s your case, your gross annual salary for the position you’re about to take should be of at least 45,540 euros and you must provide proof of old age pension provisions as well.

Here you are: a complete guide to start your work immigration! And don’t forget; you can always count on us to help you make your international life easier.

Zukunft Personal 2019

Zukunft Personal is the largest HR management fair. In 2019 it was back in Cologne, Germany from 15 to 17 September. The event was hosted at a beautiful location. The outside area got a view over the river and at sunset the view was amazing.
GLOBALS‘ team was proud to participate for the third time. And we brought AiRelo with us again to show it to HR leaders, decision-makers and managers and just like in 2018 we were gonna teach them all about ‘Startup Village’, a hub designed especially for startups with digital solutions for companies.

We had our own stand for 3 days, which was filled with information about AiRelo. Besides that, we were also giving away many exciting Airelo goodies, like our iconic green glasses. Stylish. There were also some other cool Stands at the event where we talked to interesting entrepreneurs.
Some people gave presentations which attracted a lot of attention. One of those people was our own Mario Paladini. He gave a presentation about Networking.

During our time at the event, we got the chance to interview people about their companies. This led to great conversations with great people. Fun photos were taken as well.

8 Things you should know about the Wohnsitz Anmeldung

Anmeldung

Moving to Berlin can be stressful when you don’t speak German and need to register your address with the city. Here you will find everything you need to know about the registration “Anmeldung” in Berlin.

Why

Does it apply to me?

If your situation is one of the following, you need to register with the district authorities:

  • Moving to another apartment in Berlin;
  • Moving from another city in Germany to Berlin for more than 6 months;
  • Moving from abroad to Berlin and your stay is longer than 3 months.

Should I register?

This registration is needed for most of the administrative tasks you have to complete such as opening a bank account, paying your taxes, etc.

Not registering your address is illegal and you can get a fine for it. This is not the most interesting thing you will do in Berlin. But it is mandatory and easy to do when you know how it works.

What

Do I need?

To avoid having to go back several times to the Bürgeramt office, come prepared with everything that is required. Here is a checklist of what you need:

❐ Proof of identity (passport, ID, visa if you need one) with a valid date;

❐ Rental agreement (a letter your landlord gives you to prove that you are a tenant in the apartment), or get the legal format here;

❐ Civil status certificate if this is the first time you register (certificate of marriage, birth certificate);

❐ Anmeldung Form (the most important document and most challenging to fill in when you don’t understand German). Get the help you need over there with AiRelo ? https://clubglobals.com/airelo/

Is the "Anmeldung Formular"?

This form is mandatory for your life here in Berlin. To help you fill it out, Club GLOBALS created AiRelo. Available in up to 10 languages, our Artificial Intelligence Relocation Assistant will ask you for which city you need to register, as well as personal details necessary for the form.
In just under ten minutes, you will receive a PDF version of the registration form delivered in German. All that is left for you to do is print out the form, and make your way to the Bürgeramt.

AiRelo is operational in Berlin, Munich and New York, and will soon be expanding to other international cities.

Where

To register?

In order to register you need to go to the Bürgeramt office. It is the equivalence of the city hall, but specific to every district part of Berlin.

It is mandatory to make an appointment beforehand. Be sure to have your passport or ID card, the agreement letter from your landlord and the Anmeldung form.

To make an appointment?

Making an appointment has become mandatory since the coronavirus pandemic. You can choose among one of the 40 Bürgeramts in Berlin, or choose one in your district, whichever is most convenient.

Here is the link to make an appointment (“Termin” in German).

Tip: If you don’t see any slot available which suits you, refresh the page. Most of the time, a new slot will  appear.

You can also call them by dialing the number 115 and directly make an appointment with them. Most tend to speak English.

What about the

German Licence Tax?

Even if you don’t have a television or a radio, the licence tax is mandatory. In German it is referred to as the Beitragsservice von ARD, ZDF und Deutschlandradio. The government considers that you can have access to the services, even through your smartphone or computer. You will have up to one week to pay those fees otherwise you might be fined.

The tax is €17.50 per month per household. The fee can be split between the occupants you share your apartment or house with. This licence fee can be paid on a monthly, quarterly, bi-annual, or annual basis.

Persönliche Identifikationsnummer, in other words, the personal identification number or Tax ID?

This number is unique and used for taxation purposes. You usually receive your tax ID a few weeks after your Anmeldung, after which you will need to provide the number to your employer when you first start working.
In Germany, employees are directly taxed from their salaries. You could be subject to paying taxes at the highest rate should you fail to provide the tax number to your employer,
