2015 is full of celebrations! Tonight is the start of the Festival of Lights in Berlin, which is celebrated for the 10th time this year. Delight your eyes with the playful intervention of lights that will be placed all over the city.

For 10 years now, the Berlin FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS transforms the capital in an enchanting world full of light art and creative installations during the month October. Various events, adventure activities and tours – all about and under the theme of light – make it an art piece. This video gives you insights on 10 years of FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS in Berlin.

Additionally this year is the “International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies”,  in cooperation with the UNESCO, they will promote the role of light in the modern world. They’ll conmemorate “from the first studies of optics 1,000 years ago to discoveries in optical communications that power the Internet today”.

Don’t ask me where I’m from, ask me where I’m local?” 

Are you Multilocal?

This amazing TED Talk invite us to rethink the typical introduction question “Where are you from?” and suggests us to reformulate it like this: “Where are you local?” Then the answer will be richer,  you’ll get a better insight of the person, more accurate and interesting.

The speaker Taiye Selasi, born in UK but raised in the US with African heritage, considers herself a Citizen of the world, and more exactly a “Multi-local” person. She tries to define who she is, going to her roots and she realizes that she’s not from a country , she’s her experiences and her experiences happened locally. “How can I come from a country?” she asks. “How can a human being come from a concept?”

She proposes a three-step test, to know where are you local, she call these the 3 “R’s”:

Rituals

Relationships

Restrictions.

Next time she’s introduced, hopes Selasi, she’s described as a human being, not a citizen of the world but of worlds. Because, she says, “You can take away my passport, but you can’t take away my experience.”

Tomorrow (03.10.2015) is happening a big event in Berlin, at the Branderburger Gate will occur an Open Air Festival from 14.00 – 23.00!
Motive?Is the day of German Unity, and this year is the 25th anniversary of the re-unification of Germany. This special day will be a huge celebration, which will held special guests and acts.

The historical event of German reunification, where the former GDR officially joined the Federal Republic of Germany, is celebrated with a three-day festival around Brandenburg Gate and “Straße des 17. Juni”. In that area, various stages host live bands and stands sell food, drinks and sweets.

Last year happened also an important national event very related to this year. The difference is that in 2014 was celebrated the Fall of the Berlin Wall (09.11.1989). One year after is when the re-unification was actually materialised (03.10.1990).

Last year was a very emotional and beautiful event, tomorrow is very also very promising. Don’t miss your chance to take part of this emblematic event by assisting and experiencing in first hand Germany’s history.
